Start a club that actually does things.
OPTIC supports forecasting clubs across the US, and we’d love to help you build one at your university.

Sorta like what you’d imagine a basketball team doing for basketball, or a debate team doing for debate, or a trivia bowl team for trivia… but for forecasting!
mostly, practice — drills, training, working through examples, calibration, etc
talks or lectures on a particular subtopic
scrimmages/practice tournaments with other clubs
competing the regional OPTIC tournaments
working on projects within the forecasting community
social events
Some examples of specific events:
practice sessions (e.g. calibration training, weekly updating sessions for a Metaculus Quarterly Cup)
forecasting workshops
speaker events with experts in fields ranging from statistics to economics to biology to finance and more
game nights & other events just for fun
reading groups (e.g. book clubs on Superforecasting, The Signal and the Noise, Expert Political Judgement, etc)
We go into further depth on “why forecasting clubs” and “what do forecasting clubs look like” in the first section of our masterdoc for forecasting clubs.

No. All of the support we provide for forecasting clubs is free.
We’re a nonprofit, funded by philanthropists and sponsors who love forecasting almost as much as we do — and they support us so that we can support you.
(Note that you might separately need funding for general club expenses, like food for events or books for reading groups — check the section on “funding” in the masterdoc for thorough and practical guides.)
